5 yoga poses to start your day right (10-min routine)
You don't need an hour of yoga to feel good. With just 10 minutes in the morning, you can transform your mood, awaken your body, and approach your day with much more serenity. We're sharing our favorite routine: simple, effective, and ideal for beginners and regular practitioners alike!
Why do yoga in the morning?
Morning yoga is a bit like coffee... but better! It gently wakes up your joints, activates blood circulation, and prepares your mind to face the day. And unlike coffee, there's no energy crash at 3 PM! To learn more about all the benefits, check out our article on the benefits of yoga for body and mind.
The routine: 5 poses to start your day right
1. Child's Pose (Balasana) — 2 minutes
Start gently by kneeling on your mat, sitting your hips back on your heels, and extending your arms forward. This is the perfect pose to reconnect with your breath and greet your body. Stay here for 2 minutes, breathing deeply.
2. Cat-Cow (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana) — 1 minute
From a tabletop position, alternate between rounding your back (cat) and arching your lower back (cow), synchronizing with your breath. This is one of the best exercises to awaken the spine and release nocturnal tension.
3. Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) — 1 minute
From a tabletop position, lift your hips towards the sky to form an inverted V. Your heels try to touch the ground (without forcing), and your hands are flat. This pose stretches the entire posterior chain and boosts energy!
4. Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana) — 1 minute per side
From Downward-Facing Dog, step one foot forward between your hands, lower your back knee to the ground, and open your chest towards the sky. This pose opens the hips and psoas, which are often very tight after a night of sleep. Take time to breathe deeply here.
5. Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II) — 30 seconds per side
Standing with your feet wide apart, open your arms out to the sides, bend your front knee to 90°, and gaze beyond your front hand. This pose strengthens the legs and develops grounding and power. It's the perfect pose to end your routine feeling strong and ready!
Tips to make it a real habit
- Prepare your mat the night before so you don't find excuses in the morning.
- Start small: 5 minutes is better than nothing at all.
- Get dressed in your yoga clothes as soon as you wake up—it really helps you get started!
- Pair your routine with a positive ritual: good music, a candle, tea...
